The MHHFF is excited to host the Mile High Horror Music Showcase Sept. 27-29, 2012 at the Walnut Room in Denver, CO.

  ELDREN, 11pm September 27th: "With six — sometimes seven — people and a panoply of conventional and not-so-conventional instruments on stage, Eldren draws plenty of attention before the band ever plays a note. Once the group starts playing, it becomes clear that it’s more than just a feast for the eyes. The ensemble’s mashup of jazz, prog rock, jam, power pop, indie rock and more makes for a joyful noise that would be utterly chaotic if it weren’t so damned catchy".   WHEELCHAIR SPORTS CAMP, 10pm September 27th:

  Wheelchair Sports Camp, the Denver based pseudo hip-hop band is Kalyn as MC/producer, Abi McGaha Miller as vocalist/saxophone, and brother Isaac as live rhythm. The band unknowingly started in the summer of 1997 when Kalyn moved back from Burbank, CA to her Denver hometown and was invited to attend and corrupt the 14th annual week-long Wheelchair Sports Camp. After meeting Abi and later brother Isaac in college, Kalyn combined talents to create a more live, jazzy, funky, combination to the traditional hip-hop group. The unconventional setup of live instruments and Kalyn’s produced beats, presents a polished sound unique to the hip hop game with old-school lyrics that maintain a sarcastic yet independent and heavy consciousness. After playing for a few years around the Denver metro area, the group has been fortunate enough to share the stage with headliners and mentors like Salt-n-Pepa, Raekwon, Rahzel, Sage Francis and plenty more. The band has played outside home in places including New York, Austin, Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, New Mexico and continues to expand their fanbase in further markets.

  IN THE WHALE, 9pm September 27th: In The Whale originally formed in the small town of Greeley, Colorado as a fun escape from their main bands. When those bands dissolved, it quickly became their focus, and in February of 2011 they moved to Denver to be a part of the music scene and try to build a legitimate fan base.

  Since their move, they have been the name on everyone’s lips, as an answer to the current musical climate of too much reverb and not enough balls. The band started 2012 with an EP release show, selling out the Hi-Dive, a 300 capacity venue and the go to spot for up and coming Denver bands. The EP, “Cake,” is dirty and aggressive, yet surprisingly light-hearted (think Eagles of Death Metal meets The White Stripes). Recently, In The Whale opened for SLASH (Guns N' Roses) at San Diego's House of Blues.

  SARAH ANGELA and the MEANIES, 8pm September 27th: "Playing a classic blues in the tradition of Bonnie Raitt or Jewel, Angela's music has caught wind in Denver's music scene." ~Josiah Hesse, Westword. The group has quickly gained attention and fans, playing venues such as The Walnut Room, the Mercury Cafe, Marquis Theatre, The Oriental Theater and Denver Pride's Main Stage. Sarah Angela and the Meanies will be embarking on a November tour of the Midwest.

  TWO TONE WOLF PACK, 7pm September 27th: Two Tone Wolf Pack is early 20th century imagery and idealism manifested in a trashcan-americana quartet, lending a rowdy voice to the working class, to the back woods, to the dark and hidden. The songs are at once anthemic and strange. They sing of being beaten down, and of surviving. Two Tone Wolf Pack reestablishes the spirit of chain gangs as the brooding spirit of hopes and fears. Through s teady heavy beats you hear the railway’s pounding in your heart, and through gritty vocals; haunting, luring melodies in your ears. In June 2011, Two Tone Wolf Pack released their first EP, For Your Health. The EP was recorded on homemade microphoness, styled after 1920’s tin can models. They have toured locally and nationally, including having played festivals such as Austin's SXSW and Denver's UMS in 2012.

  BAD LUCK CITY, 11pm September 28th: "Singer Dameon Merkl is haunted equally by monsters and mishaps, by nightmares and the petty bullshit of everyday living. Musically the band has crafted something that is at home with Hank Williams and Lee Hazelwood, as well as proto-goth and post-rock. Just when you think that the violin on "Adelaide" can't get any more sublime rough electric guitar thrusts its way to the forefront, reminding that Bad Luck City is not a place to get comfortable." ~ Sephiachord.com

  LE DIVORCE, 10pm September 28th: "Breaking up is hard to do, and perhaps that explains the underlying angst in the music of Le Divorce. That, or maybe it’s the band’s unapologetic love of ’90s alt-rock, which you can hear in its moody, distorted tunes that nod to grunge, classic indie rock, and shoegaze without ever going full retro. Regardless of where that moody edge comes from, it drives Le Divorce, but don’t make the mistake of assuming this is another band heavy on atmosphere and light on songcraft—the tunes are more than capable of delivering on the promise of the band’s sound." --The Onion A.V.   SARAH SLATON, 9pm September 28th: Sarah Slaton's lyrics will speak to you not matter what you're going through because she's been where you are. Her live performance is soulful and captures the human condition more than most folks artists. In recent years, Slaton has played with Jennifer Knapp, Nathaniel Rateliff, Chely Wright, Jay Brannan, Matt Morris, Nico Vega, Danielle Ate The Sandwich, The String Standards, Kyle Simmons, Catherine Feeny and many more.

  THE KEVIN COSTNER SUICIDE PACT, 8pm September 28th: "The Kevin Costner Suicide Pact is a different breed of ambient/drone altogether. With a strangely humorous name that many either love or hate, this quartet of soundscapers is one of the most interesting and unique projects out there right now. Based in Denver, CO (which is known for a variety of musical scenes, but not particularly for its ambient artists) the foursome are creating sounds that remind one of William Bassinski’s sublime compositions which seem to be ever-unfolding, even long after the initial listening experience. This is music best served with a high gravity brew and a smoke-filled room of your closest friends." - Rachel Evans, Foxy Digitalis

  WICHITA RUN, 7pm September 28th: Formed in spring 2012, Wichita Run is comprised of members with a wide range of musical backgrounds, providing a base for some very appealing sounds. Comprised of founding members singer/songwriter Conal Rosanbalm and mandolin virtuoso Andrew Thompson, the Denver-based band is sure to find a place in your musical vocabulary.

  BONNIE AND THE BEARD, 11pm September 29th: Bonnie and the Beard is a vivacious group--often quite salacious, lost deeply in dream and delirium. Some say they live in a tent and practice juggling flaming arrows when they are not painting their faces and making mo onshine. Spinning tales of outlaws, redemption and longing through their own brand of boot-stomping southern-blues/gypsy-rock. Together roughly two years, they’ve shared the stage with the likes of DeVotchka, Nicole Atkins, Oakhurst; played at Tour de Fat, Sunnyside Music Festival, and two stints at the Underground Music Festival.

  MEN IN BURKA, 10pm September 29th: Men In Burka is the latest project from Modern Witch member Kamran Khan, the Ramadan-Dadaist from Denver who melds desert spirits with weird, bounce-influenced party-beats.

  PANAL. S.A. DE C.V., 9pm September 29th: When you hear an act being referred to as a "musician's band," it usually means the band in question has incredible technical skill but not a lot in the way of emotional resonance when it comes to songwriting — especially if the outfit is instrumental. PANAL S.A. DE C.V. bucks that trend in every way imaginable. The band's music, which speaks for itself, has evolved over the past several years. PANAL has written some of the most interesting and evocative rock music to come out of Denver, partly because it knows how to speak directly and powerfully to the heart without having to spell everything out with words.

  BIRDS OF A FEATHER, 8pm September 29th: Birds of a Feather is a band that began in the mountains of Colorado in the summer of 2010. Their music is an unusual blend of styles that have never quite been heard together. Written on banjo and guitar, Anna Smith’s songs combine folk, pop, and bluegrass with distinctive melodies.

  ATTIC ATTACK, 7pm September 29th: Singer-songwriter Donny D Rose has been performing in Denver since 2006. While opening for bands, playing at coffee shops, and powering through his share of open mic nights, he looked for opportunities to extend his vision to a band. It wasn’t until Rose started production on his first EP that he would find a musical match in Coupe Michael. They formed My Shadows Existence and released a self-titled EP in 2009. Over the next 2 years, Rose and Coupe auditioned several potential band members, but by June 2011 the Americana duo was still just a duo. While continuing to look for the right mix of musicians, the two performed as members of the Alan Andrews, Jr. (The Photo Atlas) acoustic side project Serious Moonlight.
